After many years, AT&T will be offering embedding, de-embedding and conversion from analog to digital as outlined in SMPTE 272M. The topic of this month's discussion is AES/EBU audio and how it is embedded in the television plant. Come and see where all the old TR 337 standards went and where they can be found in what we are doing today. Come hear about how "fool proof" it can be. Also, experience first hand that the video is easy, the hard part is the audio. Plus, some school of hard knocks lessons doing audio embedding remotely. Wallace Murray is Area Manager - Radio, Video, and ICEP for AT&T in the five states that were Ameritech following the original AT&T's divestiture. He manages approximately 15 engineers providing services for radio and TV stations in the region. He is one of the early advocates of digital video and engineered the first 259M and 292M remotes in Michigan, and wrote the technical references, interface specs and tariffs for SMPTE 259M, SMPTE 305M, and DVB/ASI that are part of the AT&T tariffs. Prior to coming to Ameritech (then Michigan Bell), Wallace worked for WWJ radio and TV and WGPR-FM. Wallace received his BSEE from WMU in 1969 and an MBA from Rutgers in 1981. He is currently Central Region Governor for SMPTE, and is also active in his church, Boy Scouts, and amateur radio. Managers' Dinner will be at 5:30 PM at Greek Isles, 39777 Grand River Ave., Novi (just west of Haggerty Rd. in Pheasant Run Plaza). (248) 442-9255. Map. All are welcome to join us.
