NextGenTV is upon us, and ATSC 3.0 transmitters using OFDM are steadily being introduced next to the existing 8VSB systems in ATSC 1.0. However, many TV stations are not equipped to measure or monitor the new ATSC 3.0 signals, and their existing T&M equipment cannot be upgraded to ATSC 3.0, as this new technology is radically different, and the ATSC 1.0 instruments were never designed to allow such upgrade to be added in the future. Therefore we will look into the newest Test & Measurement instrumentation that has come to the US market for field testing, 24/7 compliance monitoring and commissioning.
Eddy Vanderkerken is the founder of SOURCERER LLC, a provider of test and measurement equipment for the US broadcast market. A native of Belgium, Eddy has 40 years’ experience in consultative sales of video test and measurement equipment, TV transmitters and RF equipment. He was responsible for sales of Rohde and Schwarz test and measurement equipment in Belgium before moving to the United States in 2001 to help expand the R&S sales organization. In the US, Eddy was the director of sales for R&S’s broadcast test and measurement and transmission products. He later joined Radio Frequency Systems and was actively involved in the DTV repack prior to founding SOURCERER. Eddy holds a MSEE in Electronics from Erasmus University College in Brussels.
