Detroit Section Meeting Notice

May 2021

Date: Tuesday, May 11, 2021

Time: 7:00 PM

Topic: Harnessing the Power of 12K

Speakers: Bob Caniglia, Director of Sales Operations, and Tor Johansen, Lead Camera Specialist, BlackMagic Design

Location: Online via GoToMeeting (See below to register)

Join Blackmagic Design’s Director of Sales Operations Bob Caniglia and Lead Camera Specialist Tor Johansen for a presentation highlighting an exciting tool for production, the URSA Mini Pro 12K digital film camera. Even if shooting in 12K seems like it’s in the distant future, there is ample opportunity to take advantage of the resolution now. Oversampling from 12K provides stunning 8K and 4K images, and the incredible definition around objects makes it ideal for virtual production and VFX. In this presentation, Bob and Tor will discuss how creatives can harness the power of 12K and what they need to consider when evaluating workflows for their next project.

Cinematographer John Brawley shot some footage early on with the BMD 12K camera.  His footage and his evaluation can be found at this link:  https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicursaminipro/gallery We suggest that you watch the footage on your own beforehand, as it will not be nearly as impressive over video conference.

The meeting will be held online. See below for connection details. If you are not a member of SMPTE or have an additional e-mail address, please join our groups.io group to receive meeting notices and other information from the Detroit Section.
