The Detroit Section of SMPTE is made up of professionals, students and others interested in the technology of motion imaging. The Section holds monthly meetings with a technical topic. Non-members are always welcome and there is usually no admission charge.
This month we will meet for a dinner discussion on current topics. Is 3D going to take off or bomb? What about mobile DTV? Will the FCC’s proposed whitespace rules adversely affect broadcasters? Importantly, what can we do together to offer current and relevant content at our monthly meetings? Information on the upcoming vote on substantial revisions to the SMPTE national organization’s bylaws. Join your fellow Section members, managers (old and new) and guests (always welcome) for a delicious meal and lively conversation.

SMPTE is embarking on a revision of its governance documents to conform to the new requirements for 501(c)(3) corporations in the District of Columbia. It involves replacing the existing Constitution and By-Laws with a new set of By-Laws, changes to the articles of incorporation and restructuring of the operation manuals for the Society. All members will be asked to vote on the changes at the general membership meeting on October 27 or by proxy. SMPTE will be conducting online web seminars for members to explain the changes. Get full details on the SMPTE website (member login required) and be sure to send in your proxy if you are unable to attend the membership meeting.
